| My first recollection
of saltwater fishing was from my childhood. I would fish for snappers
off the dock in Seaside Heights as my family vacationed there two
weeks a year. My dad would walk me down to the dock in the morning
then join my mom and brothers at the beach for the day. He would return
to walk me home in time for dinner. I don't even remember how old
I was, but I couldn't cross the street by myself. In two weeks it
was over until the next year. In between, I'd have to settle for the
great fishing stories my grandfather, Pop would tell as we visited
every Friday night. Then time moved on!
I've been a member of the ASWF since 1999. My
passion for fly fishing saltwater and fly tying drew me to the club.
I needed to pass things on that I had taught myself and had a desire
to learn from others. I am not a "club" person so I was
reluctant to join. Luckily I took the advice from Dick Dennis and
Dave Chouinard and jumped right in. For the past two years, I've
taught the beginner fly tying class. I share patterns and techniques
that I developed with any in the club and learn much from other
members. The club has so much talent, it was easy for a little to
rub off on me. I am particularly thankful to Bob Popovics who sets
the example of sharing ideas and teaching, bylaws on which this
club is based.
I fly fish from the beach several times
each week. I have tied at several of the "fly shows" in
the area and was the saltwater fly rod guy in the Sage advertisements
in 2001. Some of my photos, flies, and written material have appeared
in saltwater fly fishing magazines.
