Bob Popovics has been saltwater fly-fishing for
over 34 years. From his home waters of the New Jersey Shore, to
the beaches of Baja, Mexico, Bob has
traveled the world catching saltwater species from Striped Bass
to Marlin.
In 1998, Bob was inducted into the prestigious Freshwater Fishing
Hall of Fame as a legendary angler. Most widely known for his innovative
fly tying techniques and designs, Bob's creations of "fleyes"
have literally changed the direction of fly tying. The originator
of epoxy and silicone flies, Bob's realistic "baitfish like"
designs have come to be widely known as PopFleyes.
From his early introduction of the Surf Candy design in the late
1970's, to his most recent collaborations of the Hollow Fleye, Bob's
impact on fly tyers and fly fishers across the globe has been tremendous.
His most recent book "PopFleyes",
co authored with Ed Jaworowski, and his line of fly tying video's
"Pop Fleyes" and "Innovations
and Creations" have become a stable library for
thousands of saltwater fly fishers.
I addition to his fly tying innovation and designs, Bob has also
spends most of his fly fishing career teaching others his hard earned
fly fishing knowledge and expertise. Bob is the founder of the "Atlantic
Saltwater Flyrodders" (ASWF), located in Seaside Park, NJ.
With over 300 members, now
the largest saltwater fishing club in the world, Bob has carried
his passion for the sport of saltwater fly-fishing to the club,
and can still be seen at every meeting and event, teaching to all
who are interested. Bob's ongoing devotion to fly-fishing has made
him a true ambassador of the sport.
Bob currently serves as an advisory consultant for many of the industries
leading fly fishing manufacturers. Bob resides on the Jersey Shore
and owns and operates The Shady Rest restaurant in Bayville, New
Jersey with his wife Alexis.
