President's Message

Welcome to the ASWF web site.

The ASWF is a club solely dedicated to furthering our members’ knowledge and ability in the field of saltwater fly-fishing. This club would not be the successful organization it is today without the contributions of our former officers, executive board members, and our founding advisor Bob Popovics. I thank them for their hard work in creating this club, and for their support and trust in my presidency.

When I first joined the ASWF it was to challenge myself. I had seen flyrodders, but had no knowledge of the sport. Casting appeared almost magical, and tying had a truly artistic allure. Within six months I had acquired the most basic of casting skills. Within a year, I was tying my own flies. In that year I ventured out on my first fly-fishing trip and was fortunate enough to catch an 18lb. Striped Bass on my first cast. I can honestly say I was hooked more solidly than that fish. On another trip I managed my first bass on a fly that I tied myself. The feeling of achievement on that occasion will never be forgotten. I had arrived; I was a fly-fisherman.

I tell you the above story, because this is what the ASWF is all about. We teach both casting and tying, in a friendly atmosphere. We offer access to and instruction from, some of the most successful individuals in the fly-fishing community; all while forming friendships that will last a lifetime.

We are fortunate to have a world renowned club, but the club belongs to you, the members. The officers and board of directors, along with key volunteers do everything we can to insure successful meetings, lessons, and fishing outings: yet we can’t do it all. Without the members there would be no ASWF. Enjoy the club and all of its camaraderie.
