Capt. Jim Freda has been fishing
the beaches of the Jersey Shore for over twenty-five years. He is recognized
as one of New Jersey’s top saltwater fly fishing and light tackle
guides. He is co-owner of Shore Catch Guide Service located in Manasquan,
NJ that specializes in saltwater fly fishing charters from both the
beach and boat.
Capt. Jim runs a 2003 custom rigged Parker 21 ft. Sport Cabin. The boat
is powered by Yamaha 150 HP outboard engine fully equipped with Lowrance
X15 GPS/Chart/Plotter/Sonar, two VHF radios/DSC, and all the latest
in gear and tackle. Capt. Jim offers fly fishing and light tackle charters
along with chunking, trolling, and live lining for stripers and blues.
Along the beaches and jetties Capt Jim runs a fully equipped 1999 4x4
Suburban completely rigged with both fly and spin tackle. He holds all
the permits necessary for beach access in both Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
Clients can quickly move from the beach to the jetty to the back bay
to cash in on the action.
Capt. Jim is pro staff for St. Croix Rods, Aussie Tackle, Spotters Sunglasses,
and Korkers. He is an active member of the Professional Fly and Light
Tackle Guides Association, Atlantic Saltwater Flyrodders, Recreational
Fishing Alliance, Manasquan Fishing Club, and New Jersey Beach Buggy
Association.
Capt. Jim is also a highly respected and established outdoor writer.
He is a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America and has
been published nationally in Fly Fishing in Saltwaters Magazine. His
Northeast Bass Blitz Reports appear on the Fly Fisherman Magazine Internet
site. He also writes for the regional based New Jersey publication,
The Fisherman Magazine. He has also written for New Jersey Angler Magazine
and NJ Boating and Fishing Magazine.
His work is also published on several Internet magazine sources that

Jim also has a weekly saltwater fishing column that appears in New Jersey’s
second largest newspaper, The Bergen Record and also a weekly column
in The Coast Star and The Ocean Star Newspapers of Monmouth and Ocean
Counties.
Capt. Jim and his partners in Shore Catch travel around the tri-state
area giving saltwater fly fishing seminars and demonstrations. Recently
they were featured on the nationally syndicated TV show “Vacations
on the Fly” hosted by Gary and Robin Edwards. They have also appeared
on Mark Crescenzo's "Family Outdoors Fishing Show", Mike Jackson’s
Outdoor Radio Show and WOBM’s Rack and Fin Radio.
Some of their other featured appearances are at the Fly Fishing Show
in Somerset, NJ the Fly Fishing Fair in Fort Washington, Pa, Cabin Fever
Day at Ramsey Outdoors Paramus, and the Sportsman’s Jamboree at
the Sportman's Center in Bordentown. They are also regularly featured
at many of the local fishing clubs in the surrounding area.
In the past several years Capt. Jim has fished the entire 127 miles
of the New Jersey Coast with some of the most respected charter captains,
local guides, and resident expects and has written his first book on
the subject entitled "Fishing the New Jersey Coast", Burford
Publishing Company. The book is currently available and covers over
140 locations from Sandy Hook to Cape May and how to fish them most
